We sit in front of one of Madikwe's busiest waterholes, a spot that has constantly produced some exceptional sightings. Sip on a mug of hot chocolate as you bask in the suns golden rays, waiting for the action to unfold. Winter offers us cold mornings, but warm, sunny and dry days, a fact which leaves little water in the bush and thus attracts a large number of elephants to drink. High mineral contents in the soil around the waterhole also brings a myriad of animals to come and lick it, allowing us to observe nature's little interactions often lost whilst driving around. There will of course be a vehicle on standby at all times in case the waterhole is quiet or for some exceptional sighting called in close by, but our aim is to focus on our cameras and photography - a job more easily done when sitting still and in comfort. We expect mornings to be a little quieter, but the warmer afternoons usually have gathered enough heat to bring the game into the open area of the waterhole which is located a mere 20 meters in front of the lodge. Gin & Tonics are refilled by un-intruding staff - as we snap away on our stabilised tripods. Expect to bring at least a 300mm lens, something that will stand you in good stead if African Wild Dog run past looking for unsuspecting prey - as they so often do. A laptop with a suitable editing application such as Adobe Photoshop’s Lightroom or Apple Mac’s Aperture. Culinary delights will be masterfully crafted by an award winning and internationally renowned chef. All rooms are magnificently adorned with king beds overlooking a natural animal corridor leading straight to an exclusive waterhole - ensuring we have full knowledge of what animals are around. Come and join me on a photographic safari where you will leave with great photo's, contented bellies and, more importantly, feeling refreshed and relaxed after spending four days at one of Africa’s finest destinations. Dates are flexible, but a minimum booking of three days is required. Enquire directly to me on email: deon@safagraphics.com or by phone: (+27) 083 281 7776 - Print Details - PDF Download Please note, this workshop is in a wildlife reserve and the animals haven’t read our schedule..! If the waterhole is quiet during that time we will spend more time in a game drive vehicle locating action packed photographic moments. |
